Learning Objectives

1. Describe screening criteria for diabetes mellitus.
2. Describe current standards in diabetes management.
3. Explain strategies to prevent progression of pre-diabetes to diabetes.  
4. Formulate a plan to assist in the diagnosis and screening for diabetes, and counsel patients on healthy behavior changes, including diet, exercise, smoking cessation, and weight loss, to reduce the risk of comorbidities.
