Learning Objectives

1. Analyze trends in emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, as applicable to practice, and relate the significance of such diseases to patients.
2. Integrate environmental infection control guidelines and AAFP clinical recommendations into practice and relate the importance of such practices (including vaccinations) to staff.
3. Identify first-line treatments for current and emerging infections.
4. Establish detailed, practice-based plans for responding to complex medical emergencies that include protocols to report notifiable diseases in the community of practice.
