Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this session, you should be able to:

1. Assess patients’ use of nutritional or dietary supplements and provide counseling to encourage safe and effective use.
2. Identify patients at risk of excessive intake of micronutrients, dangerous supplement-drug interactions, and harmful performance-enhancing dietary supplements.
3. Explain existing evidence surrounding the use of herbal supplements for common conditions, including premenstrual syndrome, altered menses, sleep disorders, hot flashes, anxiety and depression.
