1. Assess patients’ use of nutritional or dietary supplements and provide counseling to encourage safe and effective use. 
2. Identify patients at risk of excessive intake of micronutrients, dangerous supplement-drug interactions, and harmful performance-enhancing dietary supplements. 
3. Explain existing evidence supporting the use of herbals and nutritional supplements.
