Learning Objectives

1. Evaluate trends in HIV/AIDS in their community and among specific patient populations.
2. Formulate plans to approach HIV/AIDS with patients, including counseling, screening, testing and ensuring confidentiality of results.
3. Assemble infection control guidelines and recommendations on post exposure prophylaxis for staff who may be at risk of occupational exposure to HIV/AIDS.
4. Educate staff on appropriate ways to handle blood-borne pathogens and minimize risk of occupational exposure to HIV/AIDS.
