Learning Objectives

1. Assess the impact of the rising prevalence of childhood asthma, especially among minorities and poor children, on your practice.
2. Counsel parents on how to avoid household and environmental triggers that may cause or exacerbate their child’s asthma.
3. Select and integrate into practice appropriate guidelines from the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program’s updated recommendations.
4. Prepare diagnostic and treatment plans for children with asthma in the following age groups: 0-4 years, 5-11 years and 12-18 years.
