Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this session, you should be able to:

1. Evaluate pediatric patients for heart murmurs by physical examination and history, and identify any red flags for pathologic murmur.
2. Recognize when to order echocardiography for further diagnostic evaluation, and when to consider referral to a pediatric cardiologist for children with heart murmurs.
3. Coordinate referral and follow-up to a pediatric cardiologist for patients with a pathologic cardiac examination, or who has cardiac symptoms and questionable findings on the cardiac examination.
