Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this session, you should be able to:

1. Integrate guidelines for evaluating all children with confirmed hypertension, and overweight children with prehypertension, for additional risk factors for CVD, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia.
2. Screen children with confirmed hypertension for underlying renal disease. 
3. Develop an evidence-based treatment plan that encourages patient adherence to the prescribed therapy and includes health coaching and regular monitoring. 
4. Counsel parents of children with prehypertension or hypertension to make therapeutic lifestyle changes to lower blood pressure.
