1. Identify manifestations of substance abuse including: cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome; clinical triad associated with mixing of cocaine and levamisole; and transverse myelitis, rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney damage related to acute heroin toxicity.
2. Identify patients with substance use disorders and stratify patients into appropriate categories: hazardous use, substance abuse, or substance dependence.
3. Implement motivational strategies to promote behavior change.
